Heptaminol is a chemical compound selected from the group of amines and alcohols, which is used as the group of the sympathomimetic drug in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Heptaminol was developed at Bilhuber and patented in 1948. Is used as the racemate of the drug more water- soluble hydrochloride, and as an ester - acefylline heptaminol acefylline with ( 1,2,3,6 -tetrahydro- 1 ,3-dimethyl -2 ,6- dioxopurin -7 -acetic acid ).

Clinical information

Is applied at Heptaminol hypotension, " senile heart ", and as adjunctive therapy in Digitalismedikation. Usually there is a dosage of 150 mg three times daily ( orally ) or 200 mg twice daily as a delayed-release formulation.

Pharmacological properties

Heptaminol has an indirect sympathomimetic, via inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine in the synaptic cleft. Heptaminol has a plasma half-life 2.5 to 2.7 hours and is excreted unchanged in the urine.

Other Information

Heptaminol is used for doping purposes. It is in the list of the World Anti -Doping Agency ( WADA) listed as a stimulant that is banned during athletic competitions.
