Heqaib

Heqaib (prop Heqa - ib; Engl. " The one who rules the heart " or " [My ] heart is [ my ] ruler ") was the nickname of the ancient Egyptian officials Pepinakht ( Engl. " (king) Pepi is strong " ), which appeared in the 6th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.

Office and Career

Pepinakht was expedition leader and governor of Elephantine. According to his autobiographical grave inscriptions he headed towards the end of the Old Kingdom, under King Pepi II, military expeditions to Nubia. His grave is unnumbered in the rock tombs necropolis on the Qubbet el- Hawa north across from Elephantine.

Posthumous honors

After his death Heqaib was worshiped during the First Intermediate Period as a deified ancestor and as the patron saint of Südexpeditionen, to his honor in the 12th dynasty under Sesostris I. a sanctuary on the island of Elephantine was built. The plant was Egyptian called Hat -ka (Eng. "Ka - house" ) of the Noble Heqaib and at the beginning of the 12th Dynasty, on the initiative of the mayor / princes and priests superintendent of Elephantine, Sarenput I. erected.
