Heracon

Herakon (Greek Ἡράκων; † 324 BC in Susa ) was a Macedonian officer of Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC.

Little is known about Herakons role in the Asia campaign, maybe he was the leader of a band of mercenaries. 330 BC, he was left behind in Ecbatana to there to serve on the staff of the general Parmenion. But this he murdered in the same year under the direction of Alexander, together with the officers Cleander, Agathon and Sitalkes. All four officers resulted in the following years, a reign of terror in Ecbatana, harassed by the local population and enriched themselves. When Alexander probably unexpected but returned from India, they were commanded BC 324 Karmana, where they had to answer to the military assembly. While the other three were found guilty and executed, Herakon was declared innocent.
