Herbst maneuver

The autumn maneuvers is a sophisticated air combat maneuver that allows a quick change of direction combat aircraft about the yaw axis. This results in a stall. Requirement for the maneuver is, inter alia, a thrust vector control.

The German test pilot Wolfgang Herbst, at the time a developer at Messerschmitt -Bolkow -Blohm, the maneuver first flew on 29 April 1993 by the Experimental Aircraft Rockwell - MBB X-31, a predecessor of the Euro Fighter Typhoon. The F -22 Raptor has mastered this maneuver. The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 is likely to also be able.
