Heresiarch

As a heresiarch (literally about leaders of followers ) is referred to in the literature and official language of the Christian tradition, the leader of a sect or one who has a heretical, deviating from the orthodox doctrine or opinion represented the first time prominently.

These representatives designated as a heresiarch heterodox doctrine eponymous for the corresponding sect or theological direction were frequently, such as:

  • Nestorius for the Nestorians
  • Basilides for Basilidians
  • Valentinus for the Valentinians
  • Mani for the Manichaeans
  • Amalric of Bena for Amalricians
  • Jan Hus for the Hussites
