In Herford this route Lippische web is called by this name the route from Herford to Detmold was built by the Cologne -Minden Railway Company.

History

Infrastructure

It was built to haul in 1880 by the Cologne -Minden Railway Company (CME ) branching off from their regular route between Bielefeld and Minden. We started the construction in Herford, as you could follow the course of the river Werre uphill. On December 31, 1880, the route was first opened only for freight and only to Detmold.

A short time later, the CME was nationalized, and with it fell the route to the Prussian state railways, as well as the railway line in 1872, built by the Hanover Altenbekener Railway Company Hanover Altenbeken to which the railway line Hamm- Warburg of the former Royal Westphalian Railway Company joined.

To create a link between these two rail links between Hamm and Hanover, the route Herford Detmold from the Werretal up was extended to Eggegebirge. On 12 June 1895, the total distance to the newly built railway station Himmighausen was opened on the railway line between Hanover and Altenbeken. At the same time the old station Sandebeck was shut down, moved the passenger to the new station (until 1989 ) and the breakpoint Sandebeck on the new route. The new station was the terminus as little importance, the trains ran through to Altenbeken station, but he was a changing point in the direction of Hameln.

1896 learned the route in Lage (Lippe ) an extension through the Begatalbahn Bielefeld - Hameln Lemgo and Barntrup. Only in 1904 this route in the direction of location was - Bielefeld finished. In order to relieve the adjacent main routes if necessary, the route of Herford was electrified to Himmighausen 1973-1975.

At the infrastructure found because of the decline in freight traffic in recent years, work on buildings instead. The Schötmar station with its two platform tracks were already converted the end of the early 90s in a single-track breakpoint for the adjacent connection point was 2013, the demolition application to the EBA one. The Sylbach station was established in 2005 by dismantling the crossing track to a stop with block location; in the listed timber building is located among others the mechanism for the up to now manually operated level crossing. Situation already lost late 90s be track 1, and in 2013, the most freight tracks were shut down and dismantled the corresponding catenary. The since 1988 no longer served by passenger trains, but previously used even for non-scheduled trains passing train station Nienhagen ( b. Detmold ) is since 2006 no longer exists as a fallback and operating agency. Remmighausen is no longer operated as a transport station for passenger since the mid- 80s, but was able to hold thanks volume of goods to this day as the train station and is controlled remotely from ESTW Detmold since 1989. The southern route endpoint Himmighausen is no longer operated its passenger services since the late 80s, but acts inevitably continue as a separation station.

On January 25, 2013, the central electronic interlocking ( CBI -Z) position went into operation. It manages the Company Stations source, Halle and Steinhagen the track Brackwede - Osnabrück. Münster and Brackwede - - In the near future, the routes Rheda- Wiedenbrück be Paderborn switched. Only medium term, the Lippe routes Bielefeld - added Rahden - Lemgo and Herford - Himmighausen as well as frets.

Long-distance traffic

The track had significance for the North-South Highway until the 1970s and 80s. There was rapid and express trains with coaches from Osnabrück and Bielefeld Warburg - Kassel to Munich via Würzburg ( even a night train with sleeping and couchette ) and Basel. In the North passenger trains reached Hamburg and Cuxhaven. Some express trains drove a diesel railcar or locomotive-hauled push-pull trains than on the Solling Railway in the Harz Mountains. About the route frequented a Eilzugpaar Enschede - Bad Pyrmont with direction change in Himmighausen.

Over the years, passenger services were, however, more and more systematized. Instead of the long-distance trains entered vertakteter transport, scheduled long-distance transport is already since the mid- 1980s history. In timetable year 1993/94 reversed due to construction between Paderborn and Soest again once a week, the D- train - pair D 1956/1957 Cologne - Herford - Kassel - Chemnitz via the bypass curve in Altenbeken; Since then the trunk is used only for road closures of long-distance trains. The work on buildings of recent years described above make the track for long-distance trains but increasingly unattractive, so now in disorders such as between Altenbeken and Soest is redirected often widely over Hanover.

After gradually introduced clockface, which culminated in the NRW - clock, the trains ran every hour Paderborn - Detmold - Herford and continued alternately to / from Bielefeld (RB 72 " East Westphalia -Bahn " ) or Bad Bentheim (RB 62 " The Cherusker " ) and an additional location south of the line RE 82 " the weavers "of the relation ( Münster - ) Bielefeld - Oerlinghausen - Location - Detmold - Altenbeken. The latter was of 12 /2003 not 12/2013 operated by the North Western Railway, which prevailed in the previously carried out by the special purpose associations CVM, VVOWL and NPH tender. Since then, the line RE 82 is part of the northern section of OWL - diesel network and operated by the euro rail, forming most of the rides / start now or in Detmold Horn-Bad Meinberg.

Continuous connections Osnabrück - Altenbeken and Bielefeld - Bad Salzuflen no longer exist by it. Since 9 December 2007 and until 12/2017, these two lines are operated by the Westphalia web after it has been issued by the special purpose associations CVM, VVOWL, NPH and LNVG.

Freight traffic

The freight was formerly alongside regional transfer trains also on regional routes. Formative was long the sugar transport in the autumn, which is also the construction of the road bridge over the northern end of the station led position. Location and Detmold had long years each with its own small locomotive to service the local sidings. Today, service trips are still working day instead of from Paderborn to Detmold. Be served while local customers in Sande Beck ( Kronospan ), Horn-Bad Meinberg ( Glunz AG - Former Hornitex ) and Detmold.

After a long break there from summer 2008 to December 2009 and again on regional freight transport in the form of DGS 64000 Kassel - Holthausen, what a week in the early evening the route sailed northward about three to four times. Meanwhile, this train takes but again going through Hamm. By back -built tracks crossing the line for freight traffic has become less attractive. Every now and then there are still some freight trains through diversions and special services.

Vehicle use

After electrification dominated electric power units, especially the DB series 110, 140, and for decades, especially the 141, the image, but also continuing to enter the series 211, 216, 290/291 and also crucial the 624 on the track. In the locomotive-hauled trains especially n- cars were used, always last as Wendezug.

After the millennium, new electric railcars of class 425 increasingly were used, especially south of situation supplemented by diesel multiple units of the series 624, 628, 640 and 643 present, the RB 72 is operated with three-piece electric train sets of the type FLIRT WestfalenBahn. The euro train sets on the line RE 82 south of location Talent DMUs one, mostly procured the VT 2:01 in 2000 - 07

The track is used every hour of the RB 72 " East Westphalia -Bahn " - Herford - Altenbeken Paderborn and between location and Altenbeken from RE 82 " The weavers " Bielefeld -Detmold ( - Altenbeken ). The RE 82 runs to Detmold every hour on Sundays but only every two hours, and a daily part every two hours until Altenbeken with connection to the IC trains of the mid - Germany connection in the direction of Kassel. Especially the Passenger association Pro Bahn complains that there is no direct train to the ICE station Kassel -Wilhelm height so that travelers have to change from lip in Altenbeken to go toward southern Germany.

In the late evening, in Herford once a line instead of exchange, which is to Durchbindung Bad Bentheim - comes Bielefeld - Detmold and Paderborn. " The weavers " (RE 82) applies in Bielefeld on the RB 73 to Lemgo. The transport is carried out by the WestfalenBahn and the euro rail. The average speed of the RE 82 between Bielefeld and Altenbeken is 62 km / h

Detmold Military Railway

1946 took over the British Army of the Rhine, the railway line of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and set up a training track for railway pioneers, which were to learn the operation of a German railway. Subsequently, the British took over the operational management of the track, both passenger and freight traffic and the occupation of the interlockings. In charge was the 3 Railway Operating Group of the Royal Engineers. The management was for the 153 Railway Operating Coy, which was specifically for this purpose stationed in Detmold. The British Army managed for these purposes British war locomotives of the type " Austerity " ( wheel arrangement 1D) to Detmold, but were soon supplemented by the Reichsbahn locomotives seized and shut down in 1947. 1948, shortly before the founding of the German Federal Railways, the railway line was returned.
