Heritage is the tenth studio album by the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. It was released on 13-14. September 2011 on Roadrunner Records.

History

At Heritage, the band leaves the earlier death metal influences completely behind. The album was recorded in early 2011 in the Atlantis Studios in Stockholm. By Mikael Åkerfeldt himself produced, it was mixed by Steven Wilson. Jens Bogren was the sound engineer. On 1 December 2010, the band announced that they went into the studio in Stockholm. Already in September 2010, Åkerfeldt had the press reported on the occasion of the DVD release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall from his writing process for the new album.

The magazine Rock Hard devoted to the band beforehand a ten-page cover story and appeared with an extra CD, The Devil's Orchard Heritage and six other live pieces from the Rock Hard Festival contained.

Criticism and success

Reviews on Baby Blue Pages fell out mainly benevolent, so were especially the courage to change in style and quality craftsmanship praised. On the other hand, has been criticized that it lacks originality and highlights. In Rock Hard, the album reached with an average rating of 7.5 out of 10 points to eighth place in the monthly " Richter scale ". Holger Stratmann Heritage described as an " interesting album with slight weaknesses ". The music magazine Eclipsed Heritage has named album of the year 2011, after it was already previously in October Album of the Month. Mike Borrink noted that Åkerfeldt is probably arrived with this album "at the end of a long journey. [ ... ] Opeth remain unique and honest. "

The album reached number 9 in Germany, the first top- ten finish of the band. In the U.S., it came in at number 19
