Herman's Hermits

Herman 's Hermits was founded in Manchester (England ) 1964 British Beat Band.

Biography

The framework of the musicians came with Peter Noone, Keith Hopwood and Karl Green from former members of the " Heartbeats ", a cover band founded in 1963. Was complemented by the band Derek Leckenby and Barry Whitman, who had previously played in the " Helion " and " Wailers ". The band's name is a simple word game, a (extended ) alliteration from the masculine given name Herman and the word hermit (English: hermit, recluse ).

The group was among the British bands that triggered in 1964 were extremely successful with the British invasion of the Beatles in the USA.

The band had already made a name in the area of Manchester, as the producer Mickie Most was aware of them and gave them a record deal. In 1964 she took on the first song "I'm Into Something Good", who came originally by Earl -Jean. The song was in England equal to a number -one hit and reached # 13 in the U.S. Until the end of 1970 was followed by official resolution about 20 more hits. In 1965, she sold more singles than the Beatles world. Their album The Best Of Herman's Hermits Vol 1 stayed 105 weeks in the U.S. Billboard charts. Her biggest hit in Germany - No Milk Today - reached number two on the charts in 1966 and held twelve weeks under the top ten.

In the U.S., Herman 's Hermits came with movie soundtracks in the charts, such as with A Must to Avoid from the movie Hold On (1966 ) or lists People from When the Boys Meet the Girls (1965 ), in the film plot they themselves played along as Herman 's Hermits. In 1968 appeared with Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughterein another musical film with Herman 's Hermits.

Peter Noone split at the end of the 1970 Herman 's Hermits. His intended solo career, however, was not a success, only his first single Oh You Pretty Thing could briefly in the UK charts place (# 12, 9 weeks). Following Peter Noone operated since 1973 as an actor in various TV series and as a television presenter. In 1980 he published with the band he founded "The Tremblers " the only album of this group.

The remaining band members replaced in 1971 by Peter Noone Peter Cowup ( born June 29, 1944). In the same year Cowup was again replaced by Garth Elliott, this had in turn give way to the later singer Frank Renshaw. Between 1971 to 1978, the band released a total of 7 singles, but that could all have no more chart success. Since then, the band limited to appearances as oldies band. 1973 and 1978 ( in New York's Madison Square Garden ), there was in each case for a concert even a reunion with Peter Noone. Although no longer in the original cast ( Derek Leckenby died on 4 June 1994 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma), the band was on tour in 2010.
