Hermann Freese

Johann Hermann Oscar Freese ( born May 14, 1819 in Pomerania, † July 25, 1871 in Hasenfelde, community Steinhofel at Fiirstenwalde ) was a German painter.

Freese came late to painting. It was not until the age of 34 he could afford in 1864 private lessons. Freese was in Berlin student in the studio of William Bridge and joined Carl Steffeck later. From the landscape painting of his teachers Freese but came early to his animal and hunting pictures. This Freese found in various representations of deer his favorite motifs.

His hunting trips gave the avid hunter always suggestions that he then transposed artistically in the studio. By his own admission Freese had experienced many dramatically staged his hunting depictions themselves.

At the age of 41 years of passionate hunters Hermann Freese suffered on July 25, 1871 Hasenfelde, near Prince forest, a deadly hunting accident.
