Hermann Gröhe

Hermann Gröhe ( born February 25, 1961 in Uedem ) is a German politician ( CDU) and since December 17, 2013 Federal Minister for Health in the Cabinet Merkel III.

Gröhe was 1989-1994 National Chairman of the Junge Union, is a member of the German Bundestag since 1994 and from October 2008 to October 2009 Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. On 28 October 2009 he was elected by the CDU Federal Board as Secretary-General of the CDU.

Life

Training

After graduation in 1980 at Quirinus Gymnasium in Neuss Gröhe graduated in law at the University of Cologne, which he finished in 1987 with the First State Exam. He then worked until 1993 as a research assistant or research assistant at Martin Kriele at the Department of Philosophy of the State and Legal Policy at the University of Cologne. After completing the clerkship, he was also the 1993 Second State Exam. Since 1994 he has been admitted to the bar.

Party race

Gröhe occurred already in 1975 as a student of the Junge Union and in 1977 the CDU. First, he was from 1983 to 1989 Chairman of the JU district association Neuss. From 1989 to 1994 he was then National Chairman of the Junge Union. From 2001 to 2009 he was Chairman of the CDU in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss.

Since 1999 Gröhe is Chairman of the CDU Federal Working Group on Human Rights. He belongs to the CDU Land Executive in North Rhine -Westphalia.

On 24 October 2009, the CDU Federal Board Gröhe appointed unanimously as Acting CDU Secretary-General, which was confirmed by the Federal Committee on 21 March 2010. He thus entered in the footsteps of Ronald Pofalla, who joined as a chancellery minister in the conservative-liberal government of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Deputies activity

Gröhe belonged from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1993 to 1994 the council of the district of Neuss on.

Since 1994 he is member of the German Bundestag. Here he was speaker of the 1994-1998 boy group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. Subsequently, he was until 2005 Chairman of the Group Working Group on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid. From 2005 to 2008 he was General Counsel of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. In the spring of 2006, he was appointed chairman of the CDU / CSU Group in the Committee of Inquiry into the operations of the intelligence services in Iraq. Hermann Gröhe else is always drawn in 1994 and 2002 over the national list of North Rhine- Westphalia and as a directly elected representative of the constituency I Neuss in the Bundestag. In the 2009 federal election he reached here 47.8 % of the primary vote (2005: 47.7 %). In the general election in 2013 Gröhe won the constituency again directly and improved its result to 51.6 % of the primary vote.

Public offices

On 1 October 2008 Gröhe who succeeded Hildegard Müller as Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery (Cabinet Merkel I). After the election, the CDU Secretary-General in October 2009 he laid down the office.

On December 17, 2013 Gröhe III was appointed by the Federal President Joachim Gauck to the Federal Minister of Health in the Cabinet Merkel.

Positions

In a FAZ interview (published January 19th 2014 ) said Gröhe, any form of suicide assistance should be banned.

Gröhe has set for his tenure as health minister, the central objective of maintaining the high quality of the health system. Sick and in need of care are thereby consistent with their needs at the center of the healthcare debate as first steps Gröhe has announced plans to shorten the waiting time at the doctor for the public insurance system and to establish a new quality institution with which the treatment success of clinics and practices can be better compared.

Others commitment

Gröhe is since 1997 a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD ) and was of the EKD Council 1997-2009 Member. From 2000 to 2009 he was co-editor of the magazine Chrismon. Since 2001 Gröhe board member of the Konrad -Adenauer -Stiftung eV addition since April 2013, acts as a patron of the Move Forward Project and is there one for the support of sustainable education in Africa.

Private

Hermann Gröhe is Protestant, married and father of four children.
