Hermann Max

Hermann Max ( * 1941 in Goslar ) is a German church musician and conductor, who was also known internationally as representative of historical performance practice.

Life

Max studied church music at the Musikhochschule in Berlin, musicology, art history and archeology at the University of Cologne and new church music at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.

Max was until 2006 the church music director at Christ Church in Dormagen. In 1977 he founded the Jugendkantorei Dormagen, from 1985 emerged the Rheinische Kantorei choir. He is also the founder of the baroque orchestra " The Little Concert ".

With his ensembles he played a number of choral and orchestral works, especially the Central German Baroque. A particular focus of his work is the music of Georg Philipp Telemann and hitherto little known music of the Bach family.

In 1992 he founded a music festival until 2006 under the name " Festive Days of Early Music " and since 2007 as the " Festival of Ancient Music Knechtsteden " in September, held annually in Knechtsteden monastery.
