Hermann Mucke (astronomer)

Hermann Mucke (* March 1, 1935 in Vienna) is an Austrian astronomer and long -term director of the Astronomical offices in Vienna.

Life

Mucke studied at the Technical University of Vienna physics, but was active soon in astronomical educational objectives. In 1964 he became director of the Vienna Planetarium of the City of Vienna ( 2nd District, next to the Ferris wheel ), which he made ​​into an internationally recognized institution. In 1971 he also took over the management of the Urania Observatory. He led both institutions until his retirement in 2000. In connection with his work at the planetarium itself Mucke deepened in the astronomical phenomenology and chronology and published by Jean Meeus two world became known works on solar and lunar eclipses.

Personal

Hermann Mucke Mucke is married to Ruth, the Astronomical office and organizing various programs with him.
