Hermann Pálsson

Hermann Pálsson ( born May 26, 1921 on the farm Sauðanes á aSum at Blönduós; † August 11, 2002 in Burgas, Bulgaria) was an Icelandic Keltologe, Skandinavist and translator.

Hermann Pálsson 1943 completed a university education in Akureyri and then closed in 1947 to study at the University of Iceland from. Then he studied in Ireland Celtic Studies at the National University of Ireland in Dublin. Since 1950, he taught English at the University of Edinburgh, first as an assistant professor, then for many years as a professor. From 1982 he devoted himself mainly scientific research and work until he retired in 1988. For a time he was also a visiting professor at the University of Toronto and the University of Berkeley operates.

Hermann Pálsson authored several books and magazines and translated, often in collaboration with Magnus Magnusson or such as Paul Edwards, about 40 pieces of medieval Icelandic literature into other languages.

He was married to Gudrun Þorvarðardóttir (* 1927), with whom he had a daughter. Hermann Pálsson died in an accident in Burgas in Bulgaria.
