Hernán Gumy

Hernán Gumy ( born March 5, 1972 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine tennis player.

Life

Gumy reached the final of the 1990 International Junior Championships of Venezuela and was in the second round of the junior tournament at Wimbledon. The following year, he became a professional tennis player, first played on unterklassigen satellite tournaments. From 1992 he played more on the ATP Challenger Tour, but held, with the finals in Sao Paulo a first notable success was only in April 1994. The following month he won in Budapest and in Bochum two individual titles from a total of six career titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. The greatest success on the ATP World Tour, he celebrated in 1996 with the tournament victory in Santiago, as he beat the local hero Marcelo Ríos in straight sets in the final. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1996 with position 39 in the singles and in 1994 with position 232 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round of the Australian Open, the French Open and the U.S. Open. In doubles, he was never able to qualify for one of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Gumy played between 1996 and 2000 14 individual lots for the Chilean Davis Cup team, where he competed twice in the first round of the World Group.
