Hernán Rivera Letelier

Hernán Rivera Letelier ( born July 11, 1950 in Talca, Chile) is a Chilean author who is known for his depictions of life in the Chilean saltpeter mining areas.

Life

Letelier family moved after his birth in the mining region of the north of Chile in the mining settlement Algorta. After the mine closed there, she moved to Antofagasta. After his mother's death, the children were distributed to the aunts. Letelier itself remained in Antofagasta alone and made ​​his way to the sale of newspapers. Later he became an errand boy in the nitrate - company Anglo Lautaro (Today: Soquimich ). At 17, he went on walks, which led him to Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina. After three years of wandering, he returned in 1973 to work in Antofagasta and married with a 17- 24 -year-old woman.

In Pedro de Valdivia, also a city of the mining industry, he worked in the subsequent period and obtained in evening classes to finish school. Later he was allowed to teach in secondary schools, after he had been trained at the training institute INACAP. Today ( 2011) he lives with his wife and four children in Antofagasta.
