Hertha Pohl
Hermione, " Hertha " Pohl ( born July 24, 1889 in Krappitz, Upper Silesia, † October 4, 1954 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was a German writer.
Life
Private
Hertha Pohl was born on 24 July 1889 as the daughter of a painter's office, and his wife in the Upper Silesian Krappitz. She was raised with her brother by her grandmother because of the low earnings of the father's hand working hours of sickly mother made it necessary to support the poor household. Nevertheless, the parents allowed their son to attend a school. The acquired there knowledge of German literature and other fields of knowledge he passed on during the holidays his sister, who also many fairy tales and stories got taught by her grandmother. The grandmother took care also to constantly purchase new books.
After their schooling Pohl took a job as 's reader at at a highly talented but blind lady in Wroclaw. This attempt to independently make money failed, pressed from homesickness. Back in Krappitz she found as a copyist embroidery patterns work and earnings in a small carpet factory. After a few years they moved at the age of 18 years to relatives in Berlin, where she learned the craft of sewing blouses blouses and worked in a tailor shop. Despite a working day of 10 hours, she attended the theater and read from their saved money procured Reclam books. After seven years of service, she left Blouses Tailoring and found a new position in the sewing department of a Tapisseriewarenfabrik. In the comparatively undemanding work they could let their literary thoughts run free. In her spare time, the collected stories were then written down. This was facilitated by a new professional body in a laundry business.
During World War I, she returned in 1915 to the early Krappitzer parents' home, where they besides taking care of her sick mother very dedicated to her literary work.
In 1931, Pohl moved to Freiburg im Breisgau. The last two years, until her death on October 4, 1954, she spent at St. Elisabeth Foundation, a retirement home in Freiburg.
Work
Your first sketch, published in 1921 in the Sunday supplement of the forward, was a story from the world of the working people, and just simply told, tinted dark and a strange realism.
