Hervey C. Calkin

Hervey Chittenden Calkin ( born March 23, 1828 in Malden, New York, † April 20, 1913 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Hervey Chittenden Calkin attended public schools. In 1847 he moved to New York City, where he spent five years working for Morgan Iron Works. He then worked as an ironmonger in 1852, he recognized the shipping interests of the country. He was School Officer in his district. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1868 for the 41st Congress he was in the seventh election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Winthrop Chanler on March 4, 1869. Since he gave up for reelection in 1870, he retired after March 3, 1871 from the Congress.

He then went to New York City to its past operations until 1904, when he retired. He died on April 20, 1913 in the Bronx and was then buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
