Hessigkofen was until December 31, 2013, municipality in the district Bucheggberg the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 merged with the former municipalities Hessigkofen Aetigkofen, Aetingen, beavers, Brügglen, Gossliwil, Küttigkofen, Kyburg, mill village and Tscheppach the new community Buchegg.

Geography

Hessigkofen is located on 589 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-west of the main town Canton of Solothurn (air line). The scattered village extends a scenic location on a ridge south of the Biberentals, in the center of Bucheggberg, in the Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​2.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen of Bucheggberg. Population

With 266 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Hessigkofen is one of the small communities of the Canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 99.2 % are German and 0.4 % speak French (as of 2000). The population of Hessigkofen amounted in 1850 to 183 residents in 1900 to 210 inhabitants. During the 20th century, a slight population decline was registered in total. Since about 1960 (181 inhabitants), however, the village again recorded a continuous increase in population.

Economy

Hessigkofen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operation of mechanical engineering, in a locksmith and in a print studio. Hessigkofen is the location of the school district of Bucheggberg. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Solothurn and Grenchen.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Lohn after Schnottwil. The nearest links to the M5 motorway is approximately 7 km from the town center. History

The territory of Hessigkofen been inhabited since very early, which could be detected by the remains of wall foundations of a Roman settlement. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1034 under the name Esikouven. Later ( 1334 ) and Hessikofen the names Hessenkofen published ( 1341 ). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Hadiso or Hesso. The suffix - igkofen he means so much as in the courts of the people of Hadiso / Hesso, where so-called relocated farms are meant.

Since the Middle Ages Hessigkofen was under the rule Buchegg, which was part of the County of Burgundy country, acquired in 1391 from Solothurn and was converted to the Bailiwick Bucheggberg. Until 1798, the high court was the Bernese district court Zollikofen while Solothurn with the Aetingen of court exercised the lower courts. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one Hessigkofen during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the District Bucheggberg.

Attractions

The center of Hessigkofen distinguished by numerous characteristic farmhouses ( half-timbered buildings ) from the 17th to the 19th century and belongs to the village of national importance.
