Heuksando

Heuksando is a South Korean island and an archipelago in the Yellow Sea 92.7 km southwest of the coast near the city of Mokpo, Jeollanam- do, South Korea, from where they can be reached by ferry. The island covers 19.7 km ², and has several mountains: Munamsan ( about 400 m), Gitdaebong (approx. 378 m), Seonyubong ( 300 m), Sangrabong (227 m). It is located since 1969 in the administrative territory of the county Sinan. On the island live 3133 inhabitants ( 2001) in two villages, Jinni and Yeri. The latter is larger, a former whaling town. Heuksando is surrounded by several smaller islands, 10 uninhabited and 89 inhabited. She is with them part of the Dadohae National Marine Park.
