In contrast to the daily news by 19 clock individual topics of the day are in the news that discussed in more detail and backgrounds, illuminated, added interviews with politicians, business leaders, experts and other relevant people of the day. There is also a stock market report from Frankfurt. Following the weather follows. Former Moderator and Editorial Director, Wolf von Lojewski, the objective once brought to the catchy phrase: "Today's report by 19 clock: politicians XY throws in the towel, say, where " For the shipment does not claim to be complete, that is, not all topics of the day are also represented by a short film.

The program is comparable to the issues of the day of the ARD. The news that night has today relatively good ratings, which are higher than the issues of the day and sometimes even higher than those of 19 - clock - edition of today.

Leader and studio background

The former prominent leader ( 70s/80s ) consisted of a camera in the studio, which showed the presenters live just before the start of the broadcast. For this purpose, a clock was displayed and important headlines of the day ran as a ticker over. The sound of the ticker corresponded to the word " today " in Morse code ( four short, a short, two short and one long, one long, one short).

With the introduction of the new studio (2009), a camera drove slowly up to the moderators, while in the background the issues of a fade in and out. A proper intro as the main output by 19 clock there was no longer here.

On 19 February 2011, the news that night got a darker studio background than the rest of today broadcasts. Instead of the 2D world map five globes are shown in the background. At the beginning of the headlines are shown again in the foreground, followed by a "real" intro, finally is zoomed to the Moderators or sometimes shown directly footage. Some camera settings were changed to give the moderators higher presence.

On September 12, 2013, the studio background was adapted to the today design. The background color is the same brightness as the rest of today spending. The appearance and the camera position in the message block has been adjusted accordingly. The mission is to make them more opulent and image stronger.
