Heymann Steinthal

Chaim Heymann stone valley, also Heinemann, Hermann or Heinrich, ( born May 16, 1823 in Gröbzig, Anhalt, † March 14, 1899 in Berlin) was a German philologist and philosopher.

Life

Heymann stone valley studied linguistics and mythology at the University of Berlin (now Humboldt University of Berlin), where he was appointed in 1850 as Assistant Professor of Philology and Mythology. During his studies he dealt particularly with the theories of Wilhelm von Humboldt, whose voice Scientific works, he moved in 1884 later. From 1852 to 1855, drew stone valley to Paris, where he devoted his study of Chinese language devoted himself. In 1863 he was awarded an extraordinary professorship in Berlin. In 1869 he was one of the founding members of the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory. In 1872, Stone Thal also worked as a lecturer in philosophy of religion and the critical history of the Old Testament at the University of the Science of Judaism. Together with his friend and brother- Moritz Lazarus, he published already in 1860 the Journal of International Psychology and Linguistics, whereby both the foundation stone for the new, first mentioned in the title of science laid. Furthermore stone valley was in 1883 one of the directors of the German - Jewish Community Federation and as such responsible for the Department of Religious Education in various small communities.

His grave is located in the Jewish Cemetery in Berlin- Weissensee.
