Hi-Tek
Tony Cottrell, better known as Hi- Tek, is an American hip hop producer from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Career
Hi- Tek's career started in 1997 with the song " Hustle On The Side " from the band Mood. The song was made for the album Doom. On the album were some MCs from Cincinnati as Main Flow, Dante, and the then unknown Talib Kweli. Talib Kweli and Hi- Tek harmonized with each other so well that they soon decided to go to Brooklyn and record an album together called Black Star with Mos Def. 2000 was followed by an album of the duo Hi- Tek and Talib Kweli under the name Reflection Eternal Train of Thought with the title. Hi- Tek was responsible for each of the beats and Talib Kweli gave the album as a rapper his voice.
After Hi- Tek is committed with Rawkus Records, he produced during the time for many trendy MCs across the U.S. songs for their albums. 2001 then Hi- Tek's Hi- Teknology first producer album was released and well received. The album was entirely produced by Hi- Tek and includes artists such as Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Vinia Mojica, Buckshot of Black Moon and others.
Hi- Teknology was sold 250,000 times. Hi- Tek was dissatisfied with the marketing and then left Rawkus Records and went to MCA Records. After exchanging the label, began the production of his second album Hi- Teknology 2: The Chip. On the album alongside Mos Def and Talib Kweli artists such as Nas, Papoose, Raekwon, Busta Rhymes and even more big names were included.
Moment is Hi- Tek as producer for Aftermath Entertainment under contract and produced for artists of Aftermath.
