Hidipo Hamutenya

Hidipo Livy Hamutenya ( born June 17, 1939 in Odibo, Ohangwena ) is a Namibian politician. Hamutenya studied in Romania ( aborted), and then in the United States and Canada.

Hamutenya was Director of the UN Institute for Namibia in Lusaka since 1981 and Secretary for Information and Publicity in the Politburo of SWAPO. After Namibia's independence from South Africa in 1990 Hamutenya served as Minister of Communications and Information (Minister of Information and Broadcasting ), as a business and industry minister (Minister of Trade and Industries) and was also Foreign Minister of Namibia. In the Namibian and the international public Hamutenya had a good standing. In 2004, he was regarded as the most promising candidate for the succession to the presidency. Since 2007 he has been president of the party then newly founded party Rally for Democracy and Progress.
