High Commissioner of the Levant

The High Commissioner of the Levant (French Haut- commissaire de France au Levant, Arab المندوب السامي للإنتداب الفرنسي على سورية ولبنان ) was the highest-ranking authority, represented France in the two mandated territories of Syria and Lebanon. He had his seat in the pine residence in Beirut, capital of the then Grand Lebanon. After the First World War, France received from the League of Nations mandate over the Levant, which lasted from 1920 to 1946. After 1941, the position of the General Delegate to Syria and Lebanon has been renamed.
