High Renaissance

As a High Renaissance is called the second phase of the Renaissance in the period from about 1500 to 1530 in Italy and from 1555 to 1590 in Germany. The art masters of this period aspired to the highest artistic perfection and harmony: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Titian dominated masterly representations of the human body, Raphael the smooth handling of the spatial perspective, Titian and Leonardo da Vinci also created virtuoso color inserts. Their model of classical antiquity was the contemporaries of the High Renaissance through the works of their vaunted champion not only as masters, but as exceeded. The same they saw in the prototypical liable architecture of Bramante and Michelangelo, as well as in the literature of Castiglione, Machiavelli or Ariosto.

Center of this period is papal Rome. In this time of Bramante central module designs for the new St. Peter's, Leonardo covered da Vinci's famous paintings ( " The Last Supper ", " Mona Lisa" ), Raphael's painting of the " punching" ( the apartments of the Pope ) and his most famous altarpiece, the " Sistine Madonna ", Michelangelo's sculptures ( " David ", " Moses " ) and its frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

The German painter Albrecht Dürer is considered one of the most important representatives of the Renaissance north of the Alps. Particularly well-known and popular are the engravings.

The Citadel Spandau in Berlin is considered one of the most important and best preserved fortresses in Europe from the time of the High Renaissance.
