Higher Scientific Institute for Diocesan Priests at St. Augustine's

The Frintaneum or Augustineum was actually called K & K higher education institute secular priest of St.. Augustine and was a training college for secular priests in Vienna.

History

The seminary was founded in 1816 at the suggestion of the court and castle pastor Jakob Frint of Emperor Franz I.. It had its seat in the dissolved Augustinian monastery in the Hofburg and from 1914 in the Habsburg alley. The priests have been proposed to the emperor by the bishop to provide training, studied theology and should acquire the doctorate within three years. The candidates wore a blue silk cincture and a black coat and came from all countries of the Danube monarchy. This institution independent of the Collegium Germanicum in Rome training of clerics for higher church offices should be achieved. A total of over 1000 priests visited the institute, which ceased to exist with the end of the monarchy in 1918.
