Highways in Bulgaria

This list of motorways in Bulgaria provides an overview of the motorway network in Bulgaria. The current total length of highways (Bulgarian: Автомагистрали; singular Автомагистрала ) is 632 km. In addition, there are 139 kilometers of motorway under construction. The planned motorway network, which is composed of six compounds, should be about 1188 km long.

Toll

For the entire motorway network tolls are levied in the form of a vignette in Bulgaria. The cost of an annual vignette currently amount to (2013 ) 67 leva for the month Vignette 25 leva and 10 leva for the week vignette. The statutory speed limit is 140 km / h

History

1944 there was in Bulgaria a single paved highway, she joined the capital Sofia with the second largest city of Plovdiv. In 2008, there were approximately 476 km motorways in Bulgaria. Bulgaria was in 2008, along with Poland and Romania among the EU countries, which had no one ready built highway. 2011, the complete Awtomagistrala " Lyulin " was completed with a length of 19 kilometers and opened. 2013 was also the complete Awtomagistrala " Trakija " completed.

Future

By 2015, the highways to the Turkish and Greek border and the ring road should be completed around Sofia. Overall, the proposed highway route amounts to approximately 1200 kilometers. The cost is estimated at 3.3 billion euros. The majority of costs ( 80%) will be provided by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport available, the remaining 20 % will be provided from the state budget. According to the latest plans, the motorway " Mariza " will be ready in several stages until April 2014.
