Hilda de Duhalde

Hilda Gonzalez de Duhalde Beatríz called Chiche, ( born October 14, 1946 in Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine politician of the Partido Justicialista. She studied teaching and is married to the Peronist politicians and ex-president of Argentina, Eduardo Duhalde, with whom she has five children. She supported her husband in his political career and took over positions in the family and women's issues.

Political career

In 1997 she was elected as the Member for the province of Buenos Aires and was able to renew its mandate in 2003. During the presidency of her husband (2 January 2002 to 25 May 2003), she took over the Ministry of Social Affairs and conducted during the Argentine economic and financial crisis, the important nutrition program of the government.

In 2005 she was chosen as the official candidate of the Partido Justicialista with around 25 percent of the votes counted for the province of Buenos Aires in the Senate. In the election campaign, she represented the flow of so-called Duhaldistas, her husband Eduardo Duhalde of political supporters. They ran against their intra-party rival Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. The current President Hilda González de Duhalde still outperformed votes and was also given a seat in the Senate.
