Hina Jilani

Hina Jilani (* 1953 in Lahore, Pakistan ) is a lawyer and human rights activist. Together with her sister Asma Jahangir she founded in 1980 Pakistan's first law firm for women's rights, AGHS Legal Aid Cell ( ALAC ) in Lahore. She is also co-founder of the Commission on Human Rights in Pakistan.

Kofi Annan appointed her to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on the situation of human rights defenders. In 2006, she was part of the International Commission of the United Nations on the situation in Darfur. In 2009 she was a member of the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Gaza conflict (see also: Goldstone Report).

She is also patron of the International Student Week in Ilmenau 2009.
