Hina-Matsuri

Hina Matsuri (Japanese雛 祭り) or Girls' Festival is a Japanese feast, which is celebrated every year on March 3.

In the time before that day one might find on tiered, with red cloth -covered platforms (绯 毛毡hi - Mosen ) a set of dolls (雏 人形hinaningyō ), who are dressed in traditional kimonos and the Emperor, Empress, servants and musicians in an official court dress represent.

Order of the Dolls

O- Dairi - sama and O- Hina - sama

In the top row of the platform are two dolls who wear court dress of the Heian period and represent the Emperor and Empress. The Emperor doll is called O- Dairi - sama (お 内裏 さま) and the Empress O- Hina - sama (お 雛 さま) ( Dairi means " Imperial Palace ", Hina means " doll "). Often, these two dolls are also made in miniature houses.

Sannin Kanjo

On the second uppermost level are usually three dolls (三人 官 女sannin kanjo ). There are ladies that serve the Emperor and the Empress, for example, one of the ladies holding a sake containers in their hands.

Gonin Bayashi

At the third level, there are five musicians with musical instruments (五 人 囃しgonin bayashi ).

On all other levels of a variety of miniature furniture, cars, etc. shown. Sometimes on the fourth level on the right and the left, the figures of two ministers are set.

Origin

The custom exhibit dolls, has its origins in the Edo period. It was believed that the dolls had the power to trap evil spirits in their bodies and so to protect the owner from dangerous encounters. When Hinanagashi (雛 流し, drifting dolls) were allowed to paper dolls in a boat drifting down a river into the sea, which should take away the evil spirits.

Customs

The usual for Hina Matsuri drink is Amazake, a sweet, very low-alcohol drink made from Saketreber. Are traditionally eaten arare colored, bite-size cookies, which are seasoned with soy sauce.

Each traditionally oriented Japanese family with a daughter has a set of dolls.

A legend about the Hina Matsuri says that the girl of a family that forgets to put away all the dolls before the night of March 4, will not marry this year.
