Hinge

A hinge connects two levels movable on an edge. The word was borrowed in the 18th century from the French charnière " hinge ( joint ) ", which in turn on the Latin cardo, " hinge, turning point " goes back, from which also the word cardinal "basic" is derived.

Hinges can be found as a connecting joint where two parts are movably connected to close about a room thanks to a mobile device. Examples are hinges on doors or lids of containers. Hinges can also be found on armor and bascule bridges.

A hinge must accept both the load of the movable part and the power of motion; it serves as a bearing having one degree of freedom.

With heavy exterior doors the hinge parts also cross or Werfgehänge hot.

Door hinges

The door hinge usually consists of a shaft and at least two sockets for fastening of the hinge with screws or nails, these are provided with perforated door hinges. For fastening to steel bushings can be welded directly to the parts.

Furniture Hinges

A furniture hinge is a hinge that is generally of multi-limbed trades ( parts ). These are not detachable and are different from furniture straps. Through a cabinet hinge a furniture door is attached to the body. We distinguish between the following types:

Simple hinge ( hinge rolled )

A rolled furniture hinge consists of two parts, the trades that are inextricably connected to a pin. Frequently, this pin is riveted. As material for the commercial steel, stainless steel or brass is used. You have the offset A ( straight) on.

Piano hinge

A piano hinge is often referred to as a piano hinge. This consists of a thin sheet tape-like hinge is used except at the piano and grand piano in furniture. Commercial dimensions are an open width of 16-180 mm and material thickness of 0.7-3 mm. It can be cut into any length, a common trade length of 3500 mm.

Concealed hinge / concealed hinge

A concealed hinge is often referred to as a concealed hinge, although the term band, depending on the design, is not always true (see Hinges ). It is typically structured as follows: in the interior of the furniture item of the so-called lever is mounted on the base plate, in the door of the container. These two parts are connected by the hinge arm. Such Hinge Hinges are a now common type of furniture hinges. Using the Hinge Hinges doors are often attached to furniture; this is in the door with a hole 40 mm, 35 mm, 32 mm or 26 mm diameter drilled (usually 35 mm), often next to two smaller holes are located (often with 8 mm diameter) for locking. Inside the piece of furniture is attached, the base plate mounted on the lever with the adjustment screw and the door is adjusted. Also, there are variants in which the levers are simply attached by snap closures. This variant also has adjusting screws for aligning the door. The adjustability of the concealed hinges is also crucial for frequent use. Few other hinges or straps have the possibility of subsequent locking in all three directions. Almost all types of construction also have a locking mechanism, which keeps it closed by means of spring pressure, the furniture door. Comparable types are always more expensive. There are now concealed hinges in very many designs. The most important distinctions are mainly the opening angle, the starting position of furniture page for furniture door ( base plate to the pot ) and the method of attachment. The disadvantage is mainly the relatively large design and consequently the appearance of the cavity hinge, which no longer falls in modern concealed hinges but so significant. As alternatives there are, for example, push- bands which allow using a special spring for automatic opening of the door, or Silentia - rings which prevent by damping down inside that the door strikes the frame when closing.

The designs of furniture hinges range from hinges for concealed mounting to hinges with richly ornamented belts.

The following are the types of attack: ( with stop is the door stop in the closed state to look in the direction of the lateral parts of the furniture - so to speak, seen from the front)

  • Corner stop ( closes door edge with the corner of the side panel off )
  • Internal stop ( door edge is within the side part )
  • Means stop / twin fixing ( closes door edge centered on the side panel )

In addition, there are also special hinges: angle hinge, wide-angle hinge, aluminum frame Hinge, zero - jump-in hinge, stud hinge (increased by 3 mm base plate ), glass door hinge (26 mm cup drilling ), Cristalloscharnier ( for gluing ), etc.

Plastic Hinges

Hinges

For plastic containers, etc. hinges are sometimes used, which are formed integrally with the two elements to be connected. Such hinges consist essentially of a thin compound, often in the form of a fold, which by their flexibility allows limited rotational movement of the joined parts. A material like polypropylene is used because of its excellent wear resistance. Hinges have a limited capacity; particular shear and increased stress on the hinge ends lead to fracture or crack. Due to its principle hinges are extremely inexpensive to manufacture, but a failure occurs, generally not interchangeable.

Are widespread hinges on storage containers in kitchen and household and known for example from the Tic Tac packaging.

Hinges

The difference between a band and a hinge is that a tape composed of two parts to be separated from each other. If a door with ribbons (eg Fitschenband ) struck, you can unhook the door at any time. The two parts of a hinge, however, are connected to each other always inseparable.
