Hipólito Ruiz López
Hipólito Ruiz López ( born August 8, 1754 Belorado, † 1815 in Madrid) was a Spanish botanist. Together with José Antonio Pavón y Jiménez, he traveled from 1779 to 1788 Chile, Peru and other South American countries. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Ruiz "; the joint authorship of López Ruiz and Pavón y Jiménez is abbreviated in botanical literature with " Ruiz & Pav ."
In his honor today as monotypic genus Ruizia viewed from the mallow family ( Malvaceae ) was named. The only species of the genus, Ruizia cordata is endemic to the island of Réunion.
