Hirax

Hirax is a thrash metal band from Cypress, California. The band was founded in 1982 under the leadership of vocalist Katon W. de Pena, the only remaining member of the original cast, and previously played with the other new bands in the area, such as Metallica, Exodus and Slayer. Hirax was a clear example of the new Speed-/Thrash-Metal-/Crossover-Genres.

History

After publishing some demos, the band signed a deal with Metal Blade in 1985 and brought Raging Violence, their first full length album, out. At the time the band from Katon W. de Pena on vocals, Scott Owen on guitar, Gary Monardo was on bass and John Tabares on drums.

1986 John Tabares left the band and Eric Brecht ( brother of DRI vocalist Kurt Brecht) was added. After this change, they published under the pressure of the label released their second album Hate, Fear and Power, where they had only 16 minutes to 8 items.

1987 ended the band a contract with the label and brought independently the demo Blasted in Bangkok out.

Due to tensions within the band left Katon Hirax and founded his hand with Gene Hoglan (former Dark Angel drummer ) and Ron McGovney (former Metallica bassist ) the band Phantasm. They brought in 1988 a demo with six titles out. After a short tour with Nuclear Assault they broke up again.

In 1989, Hirax former Exodus frontman Paul Baloff as a singer, but the band did not last much longer together.

Reunification

Katon remained active in the scene, where he worked in record stores, among others. In 1997, he took for a demo with the band of a friend an old song again on, and in 1998 he received fan mail from thrash metal fans, so he revived ultimately Hirax in 2000.

He brought the original cast with Scott Owen, Gary Monardo and John Tabares back together and in the same year they brought the EP El Diablo Negro out.

This line moved up to Katon, however complete, so you can hear the instruments on the album Barrage of Noise 2001 James Joseph Hubler, Justin Lent and Nick Sellinger. With this line- Hirax played back only a short time.

Katon was completely new staff again and released in 2004 the album New Age of Terror with guitarists Dave Watson and Glenn Rogers, bassist Angelo Espino and drummer Jorge Iacobellis. Due to insurmountable differences of opinion that occupation broke just like the others apart. In spring 2009, the fourth studio album El Rostro de la Muerte (Spanish for "The Face of Death" ) came out.
