The Castle Hirosaki (Japanese弘 前 城, Hirosaki - jo ), also Takaoka Castle (鹰 冈 城, Takaoka- jo ) is a Japanese castle in Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture in Japan.

History

The vast castle high castle tower, eight watchtowers and ten gates was built in 1611 by Tsugaru Nobuhira, son of the dynasty founder Tamenobu. Part of it was already in 1627 a lightning strike victim. It was not until 1810 the current castle tower was rebuilt in a smaller form, where you contented on the inside with a simple facade. The castle tower is one of the twelve preserved castle towers of the Edo period.

The main tower, three watch towers and five gates are listed as Important Cultural Assets. The Tsugaru ruled their domain without interruption until the Meiji Restoration and were last with 100,000 koku income to the larger princes. After the family is, the strait between the main Japanese island of Honshu and Hokkaido: the Tsugaru Strait.

The castle was opened to the public in 1895. The multistage rampart is famous for its cherry blossom.
