Geography

Hirschau is six miles from the university city of Tübingen and by the Episcopal city of Rottenburg am Neckar away. History

In the year 1204 " Hirzouue " was first mentioned in a directory of the Cistercian monastery Bebenhausen. It was built as a planned village founded along a road. With the Peace of Pressburg of 1805 Austria was forced to cede the county of Hohenberg to the Duchy of Württemberg. 1807, the now Württemberg Hirschau is assigned to the upper office Rottenburg. In the reorganization of counties in Württemberg Hirschau comes to the district of Tübingen in 1936. 1971 Hirschau is incorporated to Tübingen and loses its municipal independence.

The place has retained its village character since its incorporation. There are several clubs on site. Hirschau is, unlike other districts Tübingen, predominantly Catholic. This is because that the place belonged for centuries to the county of Hohenberg, who was a part of Vorderösterreich. Hirschau and the Tübingen district of Bühl are the only two areas of Tübingen with a majority Catholic population.

In 2007, 43 percent of the population are Roman Catholic, 33 percent Protestant, and 24 percent religious affiliation or belonged to another religion.
