Hirschenstein (Saxony)

The deer stone is a mountain in the Saxon Erzgebirge. It is located about 4 kilometers west of the snow mountain. On the summit is a historic station of the Royal Saxon triangulation.

History

Even before the settlement by the Franks peak at the sorbent under the name RECMA was known. 1864 building surveyor a granite pillar with the inscription " station Hirschenstein the Royal Saxon triangulation ".

In 1940/ 41, a wooden, 60 -meter high tower was built over the survey point, which was also used as an observation tower. However, the stability of the structure was only 10 years later, no longer assured, and it was demolished.

Starting in 1964, the peak of the enclosing Hartmannsdorfer forest was a closed military zone. Only since the dissolution of the Schneeberger mountain infantry battalion in March 2008, the 1600 -hectare forest area is freely accessible again.
