Hirsholmene

Hirsholmene is the northernmost island group in the Danish Kattegat. Most of the islands in the group are surveys of a sand bank about 7 km north-east of Frederikshavn. The total area of the islands and some small sand is 47 ha The islands, with the exception of Hirsholm ( four inhabitants; 1 January 2009) uninhabited. Since 1934, almost all islands and the surrounding marine area with an area of 2400 ha under protection.

History

Tonscherbenfunde witness the Hirsholm and Græsholm were already inhabited in prehistoric times. Three large lumps of amber (Reg. Economy and Transport

Landscape and Nature
