Hispania Líneas Aéreas

Hispania Lineas Aéreas was domiciled at the Palma de Mallorca Airport Spanish charter airline, which has its operations in 1989 set.

Chronicle

Hispania was founded in 1982 by former members of the recently defunct airline Trans Europe. The flight operations began on 28 April 1983 with four machines of the type Sud Aviation Caravelle 10R. Initially Hispania flew mainly destinations in the UK and West Germany to. In 1985, the fleet was expanded with three used Boeing 737-200 and transported more than 600,000 passengers for the first time. After the delivery of new Boeing 737-300, the remaining machines of the type Caravelle sold in the spring of 1987. In the same year the company was able to win the British tour operator Thomson Travel as a customer, thereby significantly expanding its route network. In the summer season 1987 about 40 European cities were served.

Since the range of the own aircraft did not allow direct flights between the Canary Islands and the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere, rented Hispania in 1988 two Douglas DC-8- 61 of the Canadian Nationair. In early 1989, the company acquired two of its own Boeing 757-200, which had the necessary range. Shortly thereafter, Hispania ran into economic difficulties. The company planned the commencement of air services in order to improve the utilization of the aircraft, but received by the Spanish Government no such approval. Several airlines have shown interest in taking over the Hispania, particularly with the Irish Aer Lingus and the Spanish Air Europa were conducted intensive negotiations, but were unsuccessful. On July 15, 1989 Hispania ceased flight operations and announced shortly after bankruptcy.
