Histiocyte

A histiocyte (also Gewebsmakrophage; Synonym: Macrophagocytus stabilis ) is the spatially constant form of a macrophage.

This cell type is found mainly in connective tissue and in the tunica adventitia of vessels. As the non- ortständigen macrophages are histiocytes mononuclear phagocyte system part of the (MPS ). Infections can be activated by cytokines and converted to macrophages. They play a role especially in chronic inflammation.

Histiocytes as macrophages can all operate phagocytosis and remove cellular debris, bacteria and dead cells and decompose. They have a size of 15-20 microns, their lifespan is 2-3 months.
