Hiyya bar Abba

R. Chiya bar Abba I. (also: Hiyya - the name is probably abbreviated from Achijja = Ahijah - the elder, Ruba or Rabbah; honorary title Restorer of the Torah; born in Babylonia, perhaps from the exile Ark family - he claimed descent from David) was a Jewish teacher of the law of 2 / 3 century AD at the time of transition between the Mishnah and Gemara and is considered one of the most influential Talmud teacher.

He later came to Palestine, where he lived in Tiberias and worked in the silk trade.

His father probably came from Kafri in Babylonia. Hiya was a pupil and friend of Judah ha - Nasis, uncle and teacher of Rab.

Hiya was together with his student R. Hoshayah bar Chama one of the most important collectors and editors of the Tosefta, that is not captured by the Judah ha - Nasi in the Mishnah theorems and records. The rabbinic tradition mentioned several times his Mischnajot collection, discussed his key involvement in Sifra.

Hiya and his two sons also estimated Judah and Hezekiah died in Galilee.
