Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen
Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen ( born September 23, 1848 in Frederiksvärn, Norway, † 1895) was a Norwegian- American writer, especially a novelist.
Born the son of a military officer, he studied in Christiania especially modern languages and went to the U.S. later. Where he held a professorship at Columbia University in New York.
Boyesens first literary attempts appeared in a book published by his compatriots in Chicago Journal: " Fremad ". A significant success but he won only with his ( written in English ) novel " Gunnar " (1874; German, Breslau 1880). His stories are characterized by a peculiar mix of northern soul and depth of American life practice.
