Hjálmar Jónsson (footballer)
Hjálmar Jónsson ( born July 29, 1980 in Egilsstaðir ) is an Icelandic football player. The defender and midfielder, who ran aground between 2002 and 2008 for the Icelandic National Team, played much of his career in Sweden, where he once each won the state championship and the national cup with IFK Gothenburg.
Career
Jónsson began playing football in his native Iceland. In 1999 he moved from his hometown club IF Höttur to Keflavík ÍF. For his new club the defensive player debuted in the same year in the Landsbankadeild. Initially, only a reserve player, he managed in the 2001 breakthrough and denied each of the 18 season games. While he finished sixth with the club he thus played in the Icelandic U- 21 team, for which he ran aground three times during the season. Also for the senior team, he had recommended his performances, in January of the following year he made his debut with a 0-0 draw against Kuwait in the National Jersey.
Jónsson had attracted attention outside the country's borders and joined before the season 2002 the Swedish club IFK Gothenburg. When in Allsvenskan antretenden club he came to the side of Pontus Kåmark, Magnus Erling Mark, Jonas Henriksson and Martin Ericsson in his first season to ten league operations. In the following years various injuries slowed him again and again, so it only temporarily aground as a regular force for the Gothenburg club. In 2004 he reached the club the final of the Swedish National Cup, in which he could not stop at the side of Karl Svensson, Fredrik Risp and Magnus Johansson a 1-3 defeat against Djurgårdens IF.
In the 2007 Jónsson wore in 23 league games in which he scored a goal to win the Lennart Johansson - Cup for the Swedish national champion at. Once again, the team reached the Cup final in the same year, in the 0-3 defeat against Kalmar FF with goals from Cesar Santin and Patrik Ingelsten he stood with Adam Johansson, Mattias Bjärsmyr and Ragnar Sigurðsson in the back four chain. Become final for stem force, he moved with the club the following year, again in the Cup finals, where against Kalmar FF on penalties succeeded revenge for last year's defeat. 2009 title defense was possible, when the club for the third time in a row, reaching as runner-up in the final. However, against the reigning champions AIK, the team lost to goals from Mauro Iván Óbolo and Antônio Flávio 0-2.
