Hjordkær Sogn (German Jordkirch ) is a country parish church (Danish: Sogn ) in Northern Schleswig in southern Denmark. It is located 7 km west of the city of Aabenraa (German Aabenraa ) and, since the municipal reform on 1 January 2007, of the eponymous Aabenraa municipality in Region Syddanmark the. History

For the first time in 1196 Hjordkær was mentioned as Hiortteker, Söderup as Suddathorp even over a hundred years earlier. The numerous places with the ending -lev/-leben are very old.

The name Hjordkær is interpreted as a swampy area ( Kær ) with Stags ( Hjort ). In the recent German name that is first documented in 1684, is drawn to the church. The same phenomenon is found in Raven Churches / Ravnkær in fishing, otherwise Kær was the Germans kjer most.

Hjordkær one of the few parish communities in the region, whose boundaries have changed considerably in the early modern period. Economy and Transport

As Geest community not equipped with rich soils, Hjordkær was never particularly wealthy. Long was the cultivation of rye and barley most important branch of agriculture.

Attractions
