Hjørring [ jøʀeŋ ] is a Danish town in the Region Nordjylland. With the dissolution of Hjørring office on April 1, 1970, she was the center of the municipality of the same name (see Hjørring Kommune ( 1970-2006 ), 311.37 km ²; 35 493 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2000) ), also capital of the Vendsyssel region. In a further structural reform of the municipalities Hirtshals, Hjørring, Løkken - Vrå and Sindal joined on 1 January 2007 along with the new metropoloitan Hjørring.

History

West of the "Santa Catharinæ Kirke " is the shell stone " Børsen " from the Bronze Age and Stone Age tombs were found in the cemetery ( at the crematorium ).

Hjørring was already in the medieval town rights. From the importance of the city lay three churches of the Roman time in the old town witness. By 1970 Hjørring was one of the official residences of Nordjylland. In 1993, the city celebrated its 750th anniversary. This occasion we took advantage of the extensive renovation. In addition, numerous sculptures by Danish artists were set up.

About the history of the area, the Venssyssel informed Historiske Museum. Works of modern artists are exhibited in the North Jutland Art Museum Hjørring.
