The HK 36 Skalica is a Slovak ice hockey club from Skalica, which was founded in 1936 and continuously plays in the Slovak Extraliga since 1997. Play their home games in the club from the MAX aréna that offered 3214 spectators until 2008. In the summer of 2008, the venue was rebuilt and since then has 4095 spectators.
History
In its history, the club was renamed several times, so 1952 by TJ Sokol Tekla Skalica in TJ Tatran Skalica, later in ZVL Skalica and on 1 January 1993 in HK 36 Skalica. From 1974 to 1989, the seniors team of the then ZVL Skalica played within the League 1 Slovakia ( SNHL ) ( second class ), but never came across a fourth square. In 1989 even the descent into the second league, but failed to qualify in 1993 for the promotion to the 1st Slovak league. 1995/96 reached to the relegation round of the Extraliga, but failed significantly as the last of the qualification. The following season, turn the relegation was reached in which the HK 36 Skalica took second place and thus rose to the Extraliga.
In the first Extraliga season in club history to reach a good sixth place, but different in the first play-off round against HK Poprad. In the following season 1998/99 of 36 HK occupied by the Master round in second place and made it to the play-off semi-finals, where they lost to the HC Košice.
During the lockout in the NHL Žigmund Palffy went back for a few games for the HK 36 on the ice, but then changed her HC Slavia Prague. Since many other Slovak clubs players from the NHL had permanently available, Skalica missed the play-offs. In the season 2005/ 06 they reached the quarter-finals though, but different in a series of seven games with 3:4 against the HK Dynamax Nitra Oil from.
In the 2007 /08 season managed HK 36 it to compete in the quarterfinals against HKM Zvolen, was defeated after the seventh semi-final match against HC Kosice a goal and finally occupied by the third place in the Slovak Extraliga.
The 2008/09 season was the most successful in the history of the club. After HK 36 finished third in the first round, he defeated HC Dukla Trenčín in the quarterfinals ( 4-0), as well as the defending champion HC Slovan Bratislava in the semi-finals (4:3), and in the final begnete the HC Košice. The series ended with a 4-2 victory for HC Košice, making HK 36 Skalica finished the final in second place.
The club reached the first round of the 2008/09 season for the first time in the club's 100 points and 200 goals ( 168 goals against ).
The team captain Žigmund Palffy presented in the 2008 /09 season, several historical records of the offensive Extraliga on:
- 64 goals (previously Vlastimil Plavucha in the season 1999 /2000 - 49 goals )
- 126 points scorer ( Pavol Demitra earlier in the season 2003/ 04, as well as Žigmund Palffy in the 2007 /2008 season - 99 points each )
- A value of 100 in the plus / minus rating
- A series of 25 games with at least one point scorer (previously Martin Hujsa in the season 2008 / 09-19 games)
With 70 games played thus arises for Palffy an average of 0.91 goals and 1.8 points per game.
The Scorer point record of 99 points was overcome in the 2008/ 09 season by another player of the HK 36 Skalica: Juraj Mikus reached 113 points. At the same time presented Mikus with 75 assists, a new historical record of the Extraliga on.
Known player
Žigmund Palffy comes from the offspring of the HK 36 Skalica and played for many years with great success in the National Hockey League. After his resignation, he gave his comeback at 2007 HK 36 and was in the 2007 /08 equal topscorer the Extraliga. Another striker, who was successful in North America, Miroslav Zálešák, the 2007/ 08 also plays back in Skalica since the middle of the season.
