HKK Å iroki

The Hrvatski košarkaški club Široki Brijeg (short HKK Široki Brijeg, German Croatian Basketball Club Široki Brijeg; due to the sponsorship currently officially HKK Široki WWIN ) is a Bosnian - Herzegovinian basketball club from Široki Brijeg.

The team of HKK Široki plays in national, BiH professional basketball league ( Prvenstvo BiH). In addition, the association of games of Adriatic Basketball Association ( ABA) participates. He is the most successful National Basketball Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

History

The Croatian embossed basketball club HKK Široki Brijeg was founded on 5 April 1974 the high school and sports teacher Prof. Stanko Jelcic and a group of his students.

After the founding of the basketball club, found the first games still take place under the club name " Mladost " ( youth) on the basketball hard court of the high school in Široki Brijeg. The first basketball league game was contested against the Troglav basketball club from Livno. Through further, held competitions to HKK Široki Brijeg established in the group of South Second Basketball League, in the former gesamtjugoslawischen Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina. In this league, the Basketball Association played successfully up to the year 1989. In a qualifying round, which took place in the Bosnian- Herzegovinian city Maglaj in 1989 and meant a play for the first professional basketball league in the Yugoslav republic of Bosnia - Herzegovina, the team won against the direct competitor of " Radnički " (workers) from Goražde and " Troglav " (three head) from Livno.

Due to the Bosnian war, the game has ceased operations. In 1994, the club was renamed " Široki " and participated in basketball league games in the so-called Republic of Herceg- Bosna part. There, the club won 1997/1998 basketball championship.

Under the Vereinsnamenenszusatz " Široki Hercegtisak " was the club champion and three-time basketball Basketball Cup winners of Bosnia - Herzegovina. The club took the time successfully participated in competitions of the Goodyear League. This was followed by appearances at the Saporta Cup, Korac Cup. With participation and good results in the ULEB Euro League and the ULEB Cup, the little basketball association established from the Canton West Herzegovina since then in the European basketball family and is next to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian basketball club KK Bosna Sarajevo as a good representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the European Baksketballparkett.
