HMAS Dechaineux (SSG 76)

The HMAS Dechaineux (SSG 76) is the fourth built submarine of the Australian Collins class.

The ship is named after the Australian captain Emile Dechaineux. Dechaineux fell in 1944 in the sea and air battle of Leyte Gulf as a result of the first recorded Japanese kamikaze attack.

The submarine was laid in 1993 in Osborne in Adelaide on Kiel. At the launch in 1998 participated Dechaineux 's widow and his son, Commodore Peter Dechaineux. The warship was commissioned in 2001.
