HMS Aurora

HMS Aurora or HMS Aurore is the name of several British ships to Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn, named:

  • HMS Aurora ( 1757), a ship of the 5th grade with 32 cannons, originally the French frigate Abenakise. She was captured in 1757 and 1763 scrapped.
  • HMS Aurora (1766), a warship 5th grade with 32 cannons, which was launched in 1766 and destroyed by fire in 1770.
  • HMS Aurora ( 1777), a ship of the sixth class of 28 guns, which was launched in 1777 and was sold in 1814.
  • HMS Aurore (1793 ), a French warship 5th grade with 32 cannon, which was captured in 1793. It was in 1799 converted into a prison ship and remained until 1803 in service.
  • HMS Aurora ( 1809), a wooden sloop with 14 guns, which was launched in 1809 and was captured in the following year by France.
  • HMS Aurora ( 1814), a warship 5th grade with 38 cannons, originally the French Clorinde. She was captured in 1814 and 1851 scrapped.
  • HMS Aurora ( 1861), a wooden frigate with screw drive, which was launched from the dock in 1861 and scrapped in 1881.
  • HMS Aurora ( 1887), an armored cruiser of the Orlando- class, launched in 1887. He was sold for scrapping in 1907.
  • HMS Aurora (1913 ), a light cruiser Arethusa - class, launched in 1913. He was transferred to Canada in 1920 and 1927 scrapped.
  • HMS Aurora ( 12), a light cruiser Arethusa - class, launched in 1936. It was sold in 1948 and 1960, China scrapped.
  • HMS Aurora (F10 ), a frigate of the Leander class, which was launched in 1962 and was scrapped in 1990.
