HMS Culloden

Five ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Culloden in memory of the Battle of Culloden, which took place in Scotland in 1746.

  • The first HMS Culloden was renamed before its maiden voyage in 1747 HMS Prince Henry.
  • The second HMS Culloden had its maiden voyage in 1747 and was also sold in 1770.
  • The third HMS Culloden was a camp ship that was in service since 1749 and was sold in 1765.
  • The fourth HMS Culloden was so badly damaged in the Revolutionary War that they had to be decommissioned.
  • The fifth HMS Culloden was involved in the Battle of the Nile where the British fleet inflicted a devastating defeat under the command of Horatio Nelson of the French fleet. It was in service until 1813.
