HMS Jersey ( F72 ) was a British destroyer of J class. He was born on September 20, 1937 at J. Samuel White out in Cowes on the Isle of Wight at Kiel, launched on September 26, 1938 and put into service on 28 April 1939. After commissioning she was assigned to the 7th Destroyer Flotilla of the Home Fleet.

History

After commissioning she provided patrol and escort services in the Channel and along the British east coast.

On September 22, 1939, the Jersey collided during a patrol in the North Sea with her sister ship HMS Javelin and had to abort the mission and return to Leith for repairs. After completion of repairs, she took on October 16, their service in the Home Fleet again.

On December 7, 1939, the Jersey and HMS Juno encountered the German destroyers Z 10 Hans Lody and Z12 Erich Giese, who had performed the night before a minelaying action before the Bay of Cromer on the English east coast.
